DESCRIPTION
HEXENSALBE, also known as witches’ flying ointment, was a hallucinogen used in witchcraft in the Middle Ages. It was a mixture of extremely poisonous ingredients, the exact formula of which is unknown.
Among the most mentioned ingredients are belladonna, angelica, hemlock and human baby fat. The drug produced an ecstatic trance with a powerful sensation of flying, images of sexually hungry otherworldly creatures. These hallucinations are at the center of witch mythology; They fly on Saturday to Blåkulla or Brocken to have sex with the devil and other witches. There are records, from the year 1200 onwards, where naked women have been found in a delirious trance, pleasuring themselves with the devil’s spicy dildo.
Considering what aspects of HEXENSALBE history have influenced the modern perception of witches, and what has been suppressed, it would seem that there is something even more terrifying than witches or demons; HEXENSALBE is
female sexuality.
